twitterfallI was recently skimming through my FriendFeed and Robert Scoble retweeted a tweet that mentioned Twitterfall. Always curious, I went to check it out and I was really thrilled at this amazing free tool for viewing Twitter trends.

Twitterfall is a free site that displays a live feed of Twitter posts that "fall" down the screen, kind of like that old game Tetris. You don't even have to register or have a Twitter account to use the site.

If you've never tried Twitter or you have friends or family that are a bit squeamish about getting started with Twitter, Twitterfall is a terrific way to show them the basics of how Twitter works.

Twitterfall's main goal is to display the hottest trends happening in Twitter conversations but I quickly realized that it's an excellent tool if you'd like to distill it down to one twitter user and "fall" their running conversations. I gave it a try by creating a custom trend using Chris Brogan's twitter handle. It worked like a charm - I could see Chris's tweets and the tweets of anyone that replied (or @'d) him. What a way to cut out all the noise if you just want to track one topic or one person's feed!

When I was falling Chris, I happened to tweet about it as I was pretty excited:

fall1

And almost immediately, the creator of Twitterfall replied:

fall2

How fun! I've officially coined a new term. Here's hoping that Twitterfall gains a ton of traction as I think it's an amazing tool. Be sure to check it out and follow the creator @jalada

Let me know what you think of the site and any cool new uses you dream up!
