It happened to me again today. I innocently opened up my Feedly to check out the latest posts of blogs I'm subscribed to and I became completely distracted, lured into the vortex of time-suck. Before I knew it, a good hour had gone by and as usual, I'm very happy about it.

Social Media Expert Chris BroganOf the myriad of blogs I'm subscribed to, time and again it's the renowned community and social media expert Chris Brogan who sucks me into the Bermuda triangle of intelligent, concise and genuine content that is a consistent inspiration. Without fail, I find myself whipping out my notebook while absorbing his posts as the knowledge he shares trigger ideas in my own head. Ideas that start flowing like a river of creativity and passion. Chris resonates, period.

Chris Brogan's bio on his homepage humbly states, "Chris Brogan advises businesses, organizations, and individuals on how to use social media and social networks to build relationships and deliver value." But that 60 second elevator pitch merely scratches the surface of the depth and breadth of his knowledge, skill and experience. Chris's blog is in the top 10 at Advertising Age Power150, and in the top 100 on Technorati.

I had the privledge to meet Chris last year at Gnomedex. It was a bit like meeting a movie star, I'm not ashamed to say. While I was shaking his hand, a part of my brain was panicking telling me, "Don't say anything stupid, don't blush, don't giggle." I have no idea if I looked silly (God, I hope not!) Chris was sweet enough to mention that he had been impressed with my comments in the session we'd been in earlier in the day. Yes, that little part of my brain went, "He likes me, he really really likes me!" That word, genuine again, applies.

I usually hold it together pretty well. The awe wasn't merely due to the fact that Chris Brogan is a "star" of the Twitter / Social Media universe, but because he's damn good at what he does. Following Chris is like having your own Social Media MBA program. It's not just the knowledge that Chris imparts, but the skill with which he shares it. His voice, the clean way he imparts his advice and the capable way he shares a story is the glue that keeps me coming back every day for more. It's not full of bland regurgitation nor is it stuffed with self-aggrandizing jargon meant to intimidate. When you pair the knowledge he shares with the knowledge of the members of his community, those talented people who comment and contribute their opinions on his blog you hit a home run. Value can be found in everything he puts out and everyone in business needs to make Chris' blog a part of their daily reading. When his book, Trust Agents with Julian Smith comes out I will be rushing out to buy it and I recommend you do as well. Just remember to keep your notebook handy, you'll need it.
