If you're like me, you go to a lot of different sites every day - your own site, news sites, blogs, you do searches, etc. A few months ago I found an excellent free tool that has increased my productivity by leaps and bounds.
It's called Protopage - a free service that allows you to aggregate all your best bookmarks, rss feeds, notes, whole websites all in one helpful spot. I've set mine as my browser homepage so it's always available. Here's a screenshot of my personal protopage: Click the image at left to view at full size. While some folks like Netvibes , I far prefer Protopage for it's flexibility and level of customization. You can set your own background using a photo or select from different colors and patterns (I like my purple) and the different widgets all can be personalized by color to keep things visually organized. Your news feeds can be a different color widget from your bookmarks, etc. You can also set your Protopage to be public so others can use it, view your photos, read the news or keep it private so only you can access it. I have bookmark widgets broken down by client sites, bills, personal sites, news sites. I also have a whole second page (notice the 1, 2, 3 at the bottom right) for my RSS feeds. Setting your Protopage as your browser homepage will keep you organized. You can set sticky notes to remind yourself of important calls, keep a grocery list or just load up a favorite photo for inspiration. Protopage is very handy for keeping all your RSS feeds - just open a news reader widget, paste in the RSS feeds and Protopage does all the rest. It keeps them updated and you can mark your feeds as 'read' once you've caught up on all the news. It takes a little while to customize to your liking, but once you're done, you will wonder how you ever lived without it. I highly recommend using Firefox as your browser to take advantage of tabbed browsing , a feature not offered with Internet Explorer.
